Rhiana on Organic Eating in the Union-Tribune

Last weekend in Saturday's San Diego Union-Tribune, Smart Living section writer wrote a great article providing my tips on how to buy organic without breaking the bank. We've received such great feedback from our customers that were so excited to get tips that supplement their Healthy Creations meals. You can see the full article here, and here are the tips:

Buy in season. It might seem like a no-brainer, but it can really help keep costs down. “We only put squash on the menu in the fall, for instance,” she says. It's easy to know what's in season, too. “If it's on sale, it's in season.” Right now, tomatoes are a dollar a pound because there is so much supply, she explains.

Farmers markets. Glor scours the farmers markets for fresh organic produce because it is often less expensive than at the supermarket. She recommends buying what's available and then coming up with a menu plan.

Selective organics. While Glor tries to use as many organic ingredients as possible, she picks her battles. It's less important to buy organic when it comes to produce that has a thick skin like avocados, bananas or watermelon. When it comes to fruits or vegetables with an edible skin, like bell peppers, potatoes or strawberries, Glor says organic is the way to go.

Our New Healthy Bakery!

In July we officially opened our healthy bakery right inside Healthy Creations. The fabulous Micaela Malmi of Epic Photojournalism took some photos of the new bakery and some of our tasty treats, which we couldn't wait to share with you.

Gluten Free Bakery


















Yes, that's right, we at Healthy Creations (www.healthycreations.com) are opening a gluten free bakery right here in Encinitas, California! We are going to be doing some small remodeling in late June (it won't affect our customers) and then have our gluten free bakery ready to go by early July! We are so excited!

Our desserts will all use natural sweeteners, incorporating agave and yacon as much as possible and using only minimal amounts of Sucanat.

Some of the offerings will include:
  • Peanut Butter Chocolate Tart- sweetened with only agave and yacon
  • Our already Famous Banana Bread
  • Gluten Free Quiches
  • Gluten Free Brownies and Cookies
  • Lunch offerings such as gluten free pizza, salads, acai fruit bowls with our gluten free granola made in-house
  • And SO much more!
